Ubud premium theme – annual subscription / one time payment? AND Chinese Firewall?

    Hi there :)
    A few questions:

    1) I am thinking about buying the Ubud premium theme – and understood that all premium themes are ‘one time’-payments (=as I read in your https://en.support.wordpress.com/premium-themes/ ) , but when I press ‘purchase this theme’ it says ‘Annual subscription’?!
    – Does this mean you have to pay 49$/year to use the Ubud-theme?
    – or is it actually a one time payment?

My WordPress-Plan will be of the ‘Personal’ kind (2.99$/month)= I own a personal domain which I intend to use, and think the Personal plan will serve my purposes well enough at this stage.
So please explain what I’ve missed ;)

    2) I live in China currently – and ‘The Great Firewall’ seemes to block out WordPress unless you use a VPN(?).
    – If I have my own domain-name (=without anything WordPress-related in the adress, like ‘xxx.wordpress.com’), will I have problems with the site in China – since it is still WordPress based?
    – or will my personal domain confuse The Wall so that you can surf the site without a VPN?

Thank you very much for sharing your expertise :)

  • Hi there,

Premium themes are once-off purchases. That text you’re seeing is due to a bug that we’ve already reported. You can ignore it. You won’t be charged for renewal for the theme.

However, if you purchase the Personal Plan, that will renew annually.

Internet traffic is usually blocked by IP address, not by domain, so adding a custom domain to your site will make no difference in that regard. In any country that is blocking WordPress.com, a proxy or a VPN will still be the only way to access the site, even with a custom domain.
