    Can you answer the following:
    After designing my website, can I use my own server to upload my website?
    Does this website now belong to me?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

    If you create a site on WordPress.com, the site is hosted on our servers, and we do not provide FTP access so you can upload files directly to the server.

    That has nothing to do with your ownership of the site – if you created the site, you own it.

    Thank you for the information.

    Basically then the charges are for the use of the software and Hosting on the word press?

    As I understand this then is if I choose to upload the Website onto my own server I can do this because it is my website?
    So do I then continue to pay the annual fee for the upgrade on renewal date if I am with another server?
    These are not really issues that seem to come up when you are signing up. I already know what I want, and I know the upgrade I want, I just need to know what is the commitment after the first year with word press. Then I will commit, I just need to know what that commitment actually is?

    You’re welcome to host your content where you choose:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    If you host here, or use our domain registration services, you will need to pay for that. We don’t offer FTP access, but we do offer maintenance, support, etc.

    If you host / register elsewhere, you’ll likely pay another provider (or pay for connections if you’re running your own server), but you would not need to pay us unless you are using our services.

    Hi guys,
    I thank you for the information so far. It has been helpful.

    To start with I presume I need to pay you? Because I want to build my new website on the software of Word Press. So this is where I need to know if I was doing this and then using another server what other services are you providing that are chargeable? This as stated above.

    The reason I am asking is that I currently use Serif Webplus 8 and it is not the best software for building a website but they do have FTP access as I understand it as I can upload the changes to any server that I use.
    I am lacking knowledge here I know so I am depending on your replies so that I can start my project which already has a the domain names registered etc.

    Maybe I am confused regarding the FTP access. As I understand this it would mean that I can not actually send my prepared New website under WordPress to my server to host. So I would own the website but I could not send it to be hosted elsewhere. Is that right?

    WordPress is a free and open source software that you can install on a hosting provider and build your site. You can download it from here:

    https://wordpress.org/

    We (WordPress.com) are a hosting provider that specialize in WordPress hosting.

    If you choose to use your own server or a host other than WordPress, then you don’t need to purchase one of our plans as WordPress is free.
