Unable to close account

  Link to close an account permanently gives error message

  Hi there,

  What link to close your account? Closing a WordPress.com account does not work via a link, but by selecting the option at https://wordpress.com/me/account/ and completing the confirmation steps.

  The process is described here:

  If that the process you’re following? Where in that process are you getting the error, and what is the exact text of the error message?

  after login, at “Close account” screen:
  click on “Close account” button;
  get msg box “Confirm account closure”
  with msg “Please type ********** in the field below to confirm. Your account will then be gone forever.”
  typed display name in box, clicked button “Close your account”;
  back to https://wordpress.com/me/account/close “Close account” screen
  with error msg “Sorry, there was a problem closing your account. Please contact support.”

  Went back to account screen, selected “Manage purchases”:
  nothing shown under Purchases;
  Billing History shows payments for Akismet Pro Blogger Monthly 1.

  It appears that I need to cancel the Akismet account first. I did not see an option for doing this. In any event, the site for which this account was opened has been taken down.

  Hi there,

  Interesting…never encountered an Akismet Account preventing account closure. But, let’s see if that is the case. Have you tried logging into your Akismet account here?:

  https://akismet.com/account/

  Try logging into that account, deleting the upgrade and attempting the account closure again. Let me know if you have any questions or issues.
