Unable to use Account Recovery form for legacy free account
-
Hello,
I am trying to recover my old WordPress.com account, but I cannot use the Account Recovery form because I do not have any of the three required recovery items (transaction ID, activation key, or two-factor authentication codes). As a result, I cannot even submit a recovery request.
My account details are:
- Username: kompromissis
- Sites:
This was a free WordPress.com account created approximately between 2010 and 2012. I no longer have access to the original email address associated with the account, so I cannot receive the password reset email. When I try to log in, I receive the following message:
“Your account has been blocked as a security precaution. To continue, you must reset your password.”
I believe the account may have been registered with one or two email addresses. I am happy to provide them privately to a WordPress.com staff member if they are needed for verification. But I no longer have access to either email address.
Although I cannot meet the automated recovery requirements, I can provide substantial alternative evidence that I am the owner:
- I still control the Gmail address that is publicly listed on the Contact pages of 1000dizainas.wordpress.com and joyandcolour.wordpress.com.
- I still control the Joy And Colour Instagram account that has been linked from joyandcolour.wordpress.com for years.
- I remember approximately when the account was created and details about changes I made to the sites over the years.
I completely understand the need to protect account security. I am simply asking whether a member of the WordPress.com staff could review my case manually and let me know if there is any other way to verify my ownership.
I would be very grateful for any guidance or assistance.
Thank you very much.

Hi @joycolour7a, you can email WordPress.com’s Account Recovery Team at passwordhelp@wordpress.com from an email address you can access.
Emailing the team won’t bypass the ownership check, though. WordPress.com can restore access only if the team can verify you own the account using one of the proof items listed in its account recovery guide. This doesn’t guarantee recovery, but it is the best way to have your case reviewed privately.

Hi @joycolour7a,
Thanks for reaching out.
Since this involves recovering access to a WordPress.com account, we can’t discuss account recovery details publicly here on the forums.
I’ve sent you a separate email so we can continue assisting you privately. Please reply to that email, and we’ll be happy to help from there.
