Unauthorized site creation

I got an email asking me to confirm creation of a site that I didn’t create. Then I got an email saying I had confirmed it. Can someone help me figure out if my email was hacked or if something else happened?

Go to your email program and change the password to a very difficult one because that’s how many hackers gain access to blogs
Read > http://en.support.wordpress.com/security/1. If you can log-in go here > Users > All Users and delete any user that does not belong there.
2. Disable post by email > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-email/
3. Disable post by voice > http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-by-voice/
4. Change your blog password to a very difficult one > http://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/#change-your-password
You can also reset your password via your Settings tab on the WordPress.com home page:
http://wordpress.com/#!/settings/5. Use a secure, encrypted connection to connect to your Dashboard. Under Users → Personal Settings, check the box that says “Always use HTTPS when visiting administration pages, and click Save Changes.
6. To add another layer of home security, you can now enable Two Step Authentication, also known as Two-Factor Authentication http://en.support.wordpress.com/security/two-step-authentication/

Please do as @timethief has asked. If there is any chance that your email could have been compromised you should always take every precaution.
As for the creation of a new site, after looking into your account I do not see any sites in your account. Do you happen to have the link to the site that was created?
I’d be happy to take a further look.

Sorry I was traveling for a while and computers were hard to come by. I did delete the site but it was originally at daranablog.wordpress.com – that’s the one I deleted. I’m not a blogger so I didn’t want to create a site and don’t have any others. If you can see anything fishy, let me know, but I did change my email password.

I checked the site: daranablog.wordpress.com and found that it was deleted 3 weeks ago, which sounds spot on to what you are telling me. As for seeing anything fishy – I’m not able to see anything in your history’s record. I do see that your password was changed. Let me know if you see an fishy activity in your account.

Thanks so much for taking a look. That was me that changed the password. So far, nothing else fishy at all has happened with wordpress nor with my email. Thanks again!!
