understanding spam comments

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hello, WordPress support.
I am getting comments in my spam folder that start out as really positive comments and then end in gibberish. They all pertain to the same page of my site. What are these comments and what purpose do they serve the sender? should I just delete them?
I want to be responsive to all legitimate comments, but these are a little weird.
Also, can I reply back to a comment without approving it to be displayed on my site?
    I appreciate your help!

    Howdy,

It’s not really possible to respond to a comment without approving it.

You can find tips on dealing with unwanted comments here:

I’d be happy to look into this further, if you could send a link to the comments you’re referring to. Feel free to drop us a line if we can be of any further assistance. :-)

    Thanks, Chris.
I went back to the link that you gave me and looked from there at the Akismet site.
I found good information under their link, “How It Works”. They explain the difference between email spammers and content spammers, and how their motivations and end goals are different. This was very helpful to me to understand why these comments appear the way they do and what they are trying to accomplish.
Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I appreciate the help!
