Unknown payment
-
HI, there was a payment made to wordpress from my paypal account that I did not authorize or know what it is for. Please can you explain this payment? I don’t usually pay via paypal, so this payment is very suspicious. Here are the details and reference number as it occurs on my bank account: [redacted]
The second thing that is concerning is that about 20min ago, someone tried to install wordpress on my http://www.christellerall.com domain. A domain that have had wordpress for probably 8 – 10 years already! my website developer let me know what was happening as this person entirely deleted my website!!! it is only me and two other people in the world that has my log in information so this was super concerning as none of us was doing this. i immediately tried to log into netfirms, but my password did not work. I changed the password and suddenly my website was restored and the wordpress install stopped. please can you explain this?
My email is (email visible only to moderators and staff), you can answer me via email. Thank you, Christelle

Hi Christelle,
HI, there was a payment made to wordpress from my paypal account that I did not authorize or know what it is for. Please can you explain this payment? I don’t usually pay via paypal, so this payment is very suspicious.
This payment is the renewal of the Personal plan for the site elleristie.com. This site is owned by the WordPress.com account elleristie. If you don’t want that site anymore please contact us from that account so we can cancel it and issue you a refund.
The second thing that is concerning is that about 20min ago, someone tried to install wordpress on my http://www.christellerall.com domain.
christellerall.com is not hosted by us (WordPress.com). It is using the self-hosted version of WordPress and -as you already mentioned- it is hosted by Netfirms. Therefore, you need to contact them regarding the issue you’re having.
Please understand that we’re only able to provide support for WordPress websites that are hosted by us. If you want to know more about the differences between WordPress.com and the self-hosted WordPress.org you can read this article:

I did contact netfirms, they said the payment was not generated from them, but directly from you. AS I mentioned before, I don’t use paypal to pay anything so this is obviously a very unusual payment. furthermore, I have checked and the Ellrisie.com domain does no longer exist and the wordpress account is not valid anymore so how can wordpress authorize a payment for an account that is not even active?
-
Hi christellerall,
and the wordpress account is not valid anymore so how can wordpress authorize a payment for an account that is not even active?
Although you may not have logged in to the elleristie account recently, it is still active — we don’t automatically remove or close accounts due to a lack of activity. Are you able to login as elleristie or do you no longer have access to those login details?
-
Hi,
No the account is not active. as in NOT ACTIVE, closed – long time ago already! Its not that i can not get into the account, the account is not there anymore and hasn’t been ‘alive’ for I think almost a year already!
So again, my questions is -how can you take money for an account that doesn’t exist?
-
The WordPress.com username account, elleristie, is still active – before 25 May 2018 it was not possible to close a WordPress.com account, so it is impossible that it could have been closed a long time ago.
The site in that account, elleristie.wordpress.com, also still exists, as does the Personal Plan and Domain mapping upgrades you bought for that site in 2016. Those upgrades have never been cancelled and the site has never been deleted.
It appears your chargeback for the payment on that site was closed in our favour, so your bank is not refunding you for it. If you still want a refund for the renewal payment on that site, please confirm and I’ll be happy to process it for you.
However, to completely delete the site and close that account you will need to log into that account. We cannot do that for you, even after you’ve verified your ownership of the account.
-
I can guarantee you that the site no longer exist and was deleted more than a year ago. I have proof on my side to show this. The domain no longer exist, so I don’t know where you are getting your information from, but you are wrong. If you have any proof to show me, then please email me at (email visible only to moderators and staff)
I have never agreed to any automatic upgrades or installs from wordpress – EVER. I have never given out my paypal information to anyone!! I don’t do payments via Paypal. Where did wordpress even get my paypal information from?
This site and domain has not been active or in use for probably over 2 years now, so really, I don’t know where you get your information from, but you are wrong.
Yes, I want a complete refund as I never authorize any ‘agreement’ or authorization to wordpress to just access my paypal account as they wish and deduct money as they wish!
Lastly, wordpress keeps telling me that the payment was made from my hosting company, Netfirms. Netfirms keeps telling me that wordpress initiated the payment. So who exactly authorized this payment? This domain is no longer active at Netfirms!
-
And one more thing – I cannot give the command to refund the money form an account that does not exist!!! Please email me at info (at) christellerall . com so that I can try and get my money back that wordpress so clearly just took without permission!
-
Whilst you are waiting for staff to reply can I just mention that here is the site: https://elleristie.wordpress.com/
Here is your username: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/users/elleristie/
WordPress.com upgrades auto-renew annually unless users specify otherwise. If you can log in to the elleristie account and reply here in the first instance then staff can issue a refund. Once that has been processed you can close the account. -
Oh my goodness!! that is not my site!! I’ve never had a wordpress site in my life! So clearly this is a huge misunderstanding that wordpress billed ME for an old site that I used to have which was http://www.elleristie.com Nothing to do with a wordpress site. So there is the problem – you have the wrong person!! Now, how do I go about so that you can refund me for mistakenly charging me for someone else’s site!
-
And also – I see that this person even used my name as a login??? How is this possible????? Clearly this was a hack or some security breach! This is getting more bizarre by the minute!
-
Again, i can not log into an account that doesn’t exist. How many times do I have to say this?????????
-
-
So I tried my old http://www.elleristie.com password and it seems that this was used to creative this account in 2016!!! And on top of that, my paypal was also hacked to authorize a yearly automatic renewal without my knowledge! What a scam and I wonder how many others have been affected as well? Anyway, hopefully I can get some of the money back. can you please close this account and refund the payment. Also, if possible can you refund any previous payments done on this account as it wasn’t me.

Please do because someone tried to reinstall wordpress on my current domain, http://www.christellerall.com yesterday without my permission or consent. It is a domain that is probably around 10 years old with wordpress backend for the past 5 – 8years already. There are only 3 people in the world that knows my password and log in details to my site and none of them did this install. It was clearly a hack and a security breach. Fortunately we could save my site from a back up and implementing some other security methods, but I’m concerned. Especially after discovering this account in my name – how many other fake accounts are there in my name?
-
Hi elleristie,
The Personal plan has been refunded and there is confirmation of this in the Billing History of your elleristie account:
https://wordpress.com/me/purchases/billing
We have also confirmed the refund by email — this was sent to the email address connected to your christellerall account.

As @fstat mentioned earlier, christellerall.com was created using WordPress.org software and is hosted by Netfirms. The site is not connected to WordPress.com in any way, which means do not have access to the content or your account there. It would be best to contact Netfirms if you have any concerns about activity on that site.
