Unknown Referrer

I’m getting traffic from uptics.com. What is this?

The little bits of info I’m finding in internet searches suggest it’s a commercial marketing product, so I’m concerned about why the link includes a variation of my website address, making it look to me like an unauthorized mirror.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

Because your site is public on the internet, traffic can come from a variety of sources. Some of those sources can be a bit spammy, and some spammers will actually visit your site on purpose, hoping that you will check your stats and look into it. It’s a little hard to say for sure.

If you wish you can mark this referrer as spam in our system: https://wordpress.com/support/stats/#marking-spam-referrers

so I’m concerned about why the link includes a variation of my website address, making it look to me like an unauthorized mirror.

Traffic to your site is not typically suspicious since there is no way for someone to hack your site by visiting it, so this is not usually a cause for concern. I’m not sure what you meant by “unathorized minor” here so maybe you can clarify? We’re happy to address it but from what I’m seeing here there is nothing to worry about.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

    Thank you for responding!

By “unauthorized mirror,” I mean a illegal proxy—that someone copied pages.

My domain is shadowfals.com. The referrer is shdwflswrdp.uptics.net. (I had the address wrong from memory when I said it was .com.)

It’s not only the name but the way the traffic looks, as if people in a specific region of the world clicked on links that were copied. That looks like how I’ve seen activity from pirated posts described.

I accidentally clicked on the referrer link and got a 404 error. So I’ve marked it as spam.

    Hi there,

Thanks for the additional context! Marking that referrer as spam was the right call, although leaving them be doesn’t technically cause any issues.

Let us know if you have more questions. :)
