Unparking wordpress.com site for transfer to wordpress.org

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there! I’m the site designer for laurenmccoon.com. The site owner mistakenly purchased a wordpress.com account and made the switch to wordpress.org within a few hours. The domain is still parked. How do I go about getting access to that for her?

    Thank you!

  • Hi there,

Cancelled domains are not released immediately, and it can take anything from a few days to over a year before a cancelled domain becomes available again, if at all. You should never cancel a domain that you still want to use, as there’s no guarantee that you’ll be able to use it again somewhere else in future. The better option would have been to keep the domain registration active and then map the domain to the correct hosting provider until it became eligible for transfer after 60 days.

In this case the domain should be released again by early next week, at which point you’ll be able to register it somewhere else.

Otherwise I can also still restore the domain to your account, but as the payment has already been refunded you’ll first need to pay for it again.
