update database prefix (shorten prefix)
-
WooCommerce says: We recommend using a prefix with less than 20 characters.
I actually did that in wp-config.php but it reverts me to a brand new WP install like I saw in a video. The video said to de-activate – re-activate WP but my website is temporarily gone after the prefix change so not able to do that.
Am I missing something? -
Hi there,
It sounds like you are needing help with the WooCommerce plugin, but have landed on the support forum for WordPress.com sites instead. Can you please report this issue to WooCommerce support by asking here? Thanks!

Well is it not a WP recommendation to have a DB prefix less than 20 characters? Yes it was pointed out by Woo.
I’ve seen and even done the fix but then I end up at a new WP install after I’m done when I really need my existing site back.

Hi there,
The site you are referring to appears to be a self-hosted WordPress (also called “.org”) site hosted on Siteground Web Hosting, and not a site hosted on our WordPress.com service.
To clarify, we are not the only providers of WordPress sites, and Siteground also happens to offer WordPress sites, but they use a different version of the platform than what we use here. Because of this we are not able to help with your issue as it lies outside of our system. See http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ for more info.
Specifically because we are a managed hosting service, we don’t allow modifications to DB prefixing here. That is something you find only on other providers and not something we have experience in addressing.
You can find support for your self-hosted WordPress site here: https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
You may also wish to contact your host’s support team for more assistance.
Hope that points you in the right direction!
