Why can’t I see “editor” underneath “appearance”?
A friend said that it might be because of me not updating my wordpress, but I haven’t got at message about an updating for wordpress. Is there anywhere I could check out if I have the latest update? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You will not see an editor there because you do not have a WordPress.ORG install. Here’s a comparison http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
http://artbymt.com/ is hosted by WordPress.com and is running on the most recent version of WordPress. All upgrades here at WordPress.com are done by Staff and this platform is upgraded about a month before the upgrades are released to WordPress.org bloggers.

Why are you looking for the “editor” under Appearance? Specifically, what do you want to do please?
-
“Editor” does not exist on WordPress.com, as we don’t have code-level access to our themes here. If you want to change the look of a theme beyond what’s available on Theme Options, you’ll have to buy the Custom Design upgrade and edit the CSS.

In the vent you do want to alter theme appearance by purchasing the annually renewable custom and doing CSS editing see here:
