Updates

I received a notification that my Astra, Twenty Nineteen and Twenty Twenty have updates. Although I used Astra to set up my site, I worked a month with WPLive to change and refine my site. Should I install the above updates or will they damage my site?

Hello there, I don’t see any site in your account that is hosted here on WPcom, the hosted platform.
If you need help with a site running the open source WordPress software you’ll want to head over to https://wordpress.org/support/ where you’ll find documentation and users who have more experience with the software you are using. If you don’t have a username on the ORG forums you can register one on the top of that page.
Just to clarify, this support forum assists users hosted on the WPcom platform. For more information on the differences: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/

Hi Just Jennifer: You state: ‘Hello there, I don’t see any site in your account that is hosted here on WPcom, the hosted platform.’ I’m totally new to the jargon used in websites. I guess HostGator is hosting but it is a WP site, initially using WP Astra. I worked with WPLive for a month to fine-tune my site. As it is a WP update, I felt I should contact WP to answer my question. Is it safe to update Astra, 20-19, and 20-20 themes if WPLive has helped me rearrange everything from a single-page to multiple-pag format?
Thank you, Jan -
Hi Jan, you’ll get more informed replies for your question about the update over at the forums for the open source WordPress software, which is what your website is using, or with your hosting provider, HostGator.
“WordPress” comes in 2 flavors: WordPress.com, the hosted platform (where we are ), and the open source WordPress software that you can download and install on 3rd party hosting like HostGator. Each flavor is a separate entity with different documentation and support forums.
I hope that helps explain, but if not, take a moment to read the support guide I referred to earlier at https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
