Upgrade Problems

  Hi. We’ve maintained several blogs on wordpress for years now, and upgrade two of them every year. We always used Paypal to make the upgrades, but, this year, the Paypal option refused to work. People from “Support” were of no help.

  So, one of my blogs (http://pablowantsyou.wordpress.com/) is now removed from view on the web, with the message that the “domain is cancelled”… which I find peculiar because A) I thought a failure to renew the upgrade merely meant that I can’t upload new content, and B) I own that domain name already. On top of that, I’m expected to pay a “late renewal” fee (if I upgrade now) because I couldn’t upgrade with Paypal, through no fault of my own?

  I’d appreciate any help I can get on the matter.

  Hi there,

  I’m so sorry to hear about this. Please note that you can renew your domain via credit card instead of PayPal. It looks like your domain has been expired for 20 days now and a redemption fee of $80 is needed to redeem the domain. Unfortunately, this fee is coming from our registrar (not us) so I wouldn’t be able to waive this.

  As for the domain it is currently going through the expiration process, which you can read more about here:

  Recover an Expired or Cancelled Domain

  if you would like to keep this domain, please pay the fee and redeem the domain via credit card. While you did own the domain, after expiration it can be sold to the public. Currently you are seeing the message because the domain is expired. If you no longer want that message and the domain I can remove it from your account and you can go back to using your free domain: pablowantsyou.wordpress.com.

  However, if you still want to use that domain, please renew it as soon as possible. It may be sold in an auction, in which case you would no longer own the domain and it would belong to the new owner.

  I already own several variations of the domain name, which is good enough for me.

  Regarding the other issues: I know you’re just a worker at that company and I can’t, therefore, hold you responsible for what is essentially a highly-unethical scam.
