UpGrade questions having a domain for my Blog

    I am a teacher, and have been using WordPress for daily posts for students in my classes. I have multiple pages that serves as notes, science club updates, and more.
    My WordPress blog has been a positive experience for me and is also easy for both my students and their parents to use.
    I am considering 2 choices now: paying for the upgrade, having a domain. Question with this: Is this so better for my School Blog? If so, why?
    2nd question and 2nd choice: keep my school WordPress blog as it is. I have had zero problems, it is easy to use, serves its purpose….. and then start a second WordPress site with the Upgrade – domain. I wish to have a separate blog, with pages for all sorts of references to online learning for both my students and many friends/family and their kids who do not attend my school, but ask me science /teaching questions. I just do not understand what the advantages are for upgrading and why I should do this- except i see that my students will not see extra advertisements. Could you explain?

    Hi there,

    The free plan does provide plenty of features that may address all that you need for your site. It really depends on what features you personally think would benefit your site. For example, as you mention, not having ads on the site, especially an educational site would be ideal, I assume. A custom domain, in general, is more professional looking and easier to remember than a site with a .wordpress.com subdomain. Also, if you upload lots of content, upgrading to a paid plan will increase the amount of space you will have for a site. Also, upgrading will give you expanded access to support via email and live chat.

    These may or may not benefit you, but I would take a look at the list and see if any features stand out. Otherwise, if sticking with the free plan works for you, I’d encourage you to stay with it.
