Upgrades and connecting multiple blogs.

I need to cancel my upgrade. I am also trying to make a second website (separate from my blog) and want to upgrade that one. I then need to connect the two. I have no idea how to do this.
When I purchased the upgrade, I realized it was with my existing blog. I am wanting to keep that the same and create a new one with the upgrade…I think I’m repeating myself. Sorry.
    Really need an assist.
Also, because I have my name as the wordpress.com from the first, I wanted to use that as my domain for the 2nd website but it won’t let me because it’s unavailable. It’s all kind of confusing me.

    Thank you,
    Shakti

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Shakti, I’d be happy to help you get this sorted out.

I see that you recently created a new site and purchased WordPress.com Premium for that site and another site. You cancelled both WordPress.com Premium upgrades and we have issued a refund for those purchases (minus the cost of the domains you registered). Please note that it may take up to 10 days for the refunds to appear on your bank statement.

Would you still like help with these upgrades or connecting the two websites? If you’d like help connecting the websites, can you let me know how exactly you want them to be connected? I’d be happy to help!

I figured out the above piece. What I am really wanting help with is how to work with the organization theme. When I go into support for it and do everything that it suggests, nothing comes out the way they have it designed. I have made sample posts and pages to see if they will create what I see and it is not the same. If they are widgets making those middle images, with the learn more button, I haven’t learned how to do it.
I am losing my creativity when I have to be so involved in the technical aspect. I love the set up for the organization theme as I am trying to make a website with info as opposed to a blog. I will keep my blog I have and just connect it up with it.
If you don’t know enough to help, maybe you can redirect me. It looks as if this them is very recent and there aren’t enough users on it.
Thank you for reaching out. I think sometimes wordpress is a mysterious place for support and if I figure it out, I’m always so pleased with myself. :-)

I’d be happy to help you with the Organization theme. :) If you’d like, you can also get support directly from the theme author in the Organization support forum here:

It looks like you’re well on your way to setting up your site, but to get the home page to look like the site demo you’ll need to set up the Home template. Here’s how you can do that:

    1. Under Pages > All Pages in your dashboard, click on “HOME” to edit that page.
    2. In the Page Attributes module, select “Home Page” from the Templates drop down menu.
    3. Then, go to Settings > Reading in your dashboard.
    4. Next to “Front page displays,” select “A static page.”
    5. From the “Front page” drop down menu, select “HOME”
    6. From the “Blog page” drop down menu, select “BLOG”

That will activate the home page template that’s used on the Organization demo site, and your blog posts will appear when you click on BLOG in the navigation menu. You might also want to look at the Organization support page for more information about customizing your home page: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/organization/support/

Please let me know if you have any questions about that!

Ok, I have some progress. So tricky these can be. I haven’t figured out how to use the featured image properly. I keep losing the picture I want.
So one question, it says, “That will activate the home page template that’s used on the Organization demo site, and your blog posts will appear when you click on BLOG in the navigation menu.” Where are we talking for the BLOG in the navigation menu? On the published page or in the dashboard menu? Doesn’t make enough sense for me.
I also haven’t figured out the demo shows about, mission, and contribute in their own boxes above the posts. How do you set those pages? Where is that template?

And how do I change the “uncategorized” to link with the actual posts? I created a new category, but the posts are still connected to the other one saying uncategorized on the front page.

When you do an upgrade, in the custom design does it give access for uploading images for the header. I think it does, but I don’t know if that is in the theme or if it’s in an upgrade.

I had wanted to do the initial upgrade but wasn’t clear the difference with the custom theme. As well as the video press, when I upload a video from Youtube, it does the same thing as if I had an upgrade. So I am uncertain as to what the difference is. Is it just storage amount?

    Thank you,
    Shakti

I’m glad you’re making progress! I’ll do my best to answer each of your questions — let me know if you have additional questions about any of these:

I haven’t figured out how to use the featured image properly. I keep losing the picture I want.

Each theme uses featured images a little differently, but I took a look at your site and I see your featured images appearing. If you’re having trouble with this, can you let me know where you are adding the picture and where you want it to appear on your site? That will help me take a closer look to see what’s going on.

So one question, it says, “That will activate the home page template that’s used on the Organization demo site, and your blog posts will appear when you click on BLOG in the navigation menu.” Where are we talking for the BLOG in the navigation menu? On the published page or in the dashboard menu?

Sorry about that! I meant the navigation menu on your site (not in the dashboard).

I also haven’t figured out the demo shows about, mission, and contribute in their own boxes above the posts. How do you set those pages? Where is that template?

It looks like you figured this out, but I’m happy to clarify this in any case. You can set up that part of the theme by going to Appearance > Customize to open the theme customizer.

Then, you can click on Theme to get the theme options. In the three “Middle Content Block” drop down menus, you can pick the page you want to show in that section of the page.

And how do I change the “uncategorized” to link with the actual posts? I created a new category, but the posts are still connected to the other one saying uncategorized on the front page.

You can select a new category for your posts by editing the post you want to change. If you want to change multiple posts at once, you can use the bulk edit feature.

First, go to Posts > All Posts in your dashboard. Then, select all the posts where you want to change the category by using the checkboxes on the left.

Next, select Edit from the Bulk Actions drop-down menu and click the Apply button. You will see options that can be applied to all of the selected posts. You can click on the category you want to use for your posts, and then click the “Update” button to save your changes.

When you do an upgrade, in the custom design does it give access for uploading images for the header. I think it does, but I don’t know if that is in the theme or if it’s in an upgrade.

You don’t actually need a Custom Design upgrade to upload a custom header — this is built in to the theme you use. You can upload a custom header by going to Appearance > Customize and then clicking on Header in the customizer.

I had wanted to do the initial upgrade but wasn’t clear the difference with the custom theme. As well as the video press, when I upload a video from Youtube, it does the same thing as if I had an upgrade. So I am uncertain as to what the difference is. Is it just storage amount?

The custom design upgrade lets you do additional customization, on top of the options built in to your theme. For example, you can pick custom colors and fonts for your site. You can read all about this upgrade here: Custom Design

The VideoPress upgrade allows you to upload videos directly to your WordPress.com site, rather than using another service like YouTube. However, you are welcome to embed YouTube videos instead, if you prefer. You can read more about VideoPress here: VideoPress
