  I’m wondering if we upgrade to a paid site with a new domain name, is word press still in our name

  The site I need help with is topnotchcustomtilehomerestore.wordpress.com.

  No, if you add a custom domain name, you can set that as your primary domain as long as you have a paid plan: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/#set-a-primary-address
