Upgrading from free to personal
-
Hi
I am considering upgrading my free plan to a personal plan. Does anybody know what happens when the domain name is updated to drop the ‘.wordpress’ subdomain? Will any links to the current address be redirected to the new one? And am I limited on what domain I can have, because upgrade plan information states ‘Premium domains not included’ – what does this mean?
Thanks in advance .for any help.

Hi there,
The free WordPress.com address never goes away, so it will still be connected to your site, and we automatically redirect all existing links you’ve shared at the free address to the new domain you add. If you ever cancel the custom domain, your site will go back to using the free address.
Premium domains are domains that have special pricing because they’re very rare, e.g. two- and three-letter domains, or because they are a very popular term that people will likely be willing to pay much more than standard retail cost for. We’re speaking of anything from $500 to $250k a year for a domain.
In other words, we only sell domains that are available at standard retail cost. You can see all the domain extensions you can buy from us, as well as their renewal cost (as only the first year is free with your plan) here:
