Upgrading Plan

I’d like to upgrade my plan to the personal plan but I have a feeling that eventually I will want to upgrade again, and probably within the years time. Will that mean I have to pay the fee for the new plan in addition to the one purchased previously or just the difference? For example, the $2.99 a month plan totals to $35 and the next plan is $8.99 a month totaled to $107, will I have to pay the full $107 or will the $35 originally paid be subtracted?
