Upgrading to a paid WordPress site from a free site.

    Hi,
    if I take advantage of the upgrade offer and take my WordPress.com, free website to one of the paid plans, and I create a new domain for it, what happens to links referring to the WordPress.com domain? Are they automatically redirected to the same page on the new domain hosted by WordPress, or are those links broken from then on?

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    To clarify, if people have a link to a particular post from my old blog address, will that link automatically redirect them to the same page in the new URL, or will that link break, if that makes sense?

    Hi there,

    All existing *.wordpress.com links on your site will automatically be redirected to the new custom domain. Regular visitors to your site won’t even notice the change unless they pay attention to their browser’s address bar.

    The only thing that will be affected is your SEO – it will take some time for search engines to re-index your site at the new address, so for a few weeks you’ll be receiving less traffic from search engines. But once that process completes, that should also return to normal.
