Upgrading to a Premium Account

If I do not yet know what domain name I want to use (or a client I am assisting with a website on WordPress.com does not yet know what domain name they want to use) can we upgrade to a premium account anyway and simply select the free default domain that comes with WP.com (like, ‘example.wordpress.com) and then later chose the domain name and still get the domain for free (within that first year period of creating the premium account)?

hope that make sense – in other words decide on a domain later, and get that name for free until the first year of creating the account is up for renewal?)

from my understanding, once a domain name is chosen, it can not be changed on that account – is this correct?

thanks for any assistance – Cindy

  • Yes, you can purchase a plan now and add a domain at any time.

You’ll have 48 hours to cancel and change the domain, but after that you won’t be able to change it, though technically you could let it expire in a year by not renewing it and then register another.

    macmanx,

    Very helpful idea thank you!!

But so, if I were to buy a plan without a domain name, and then say one month later decide to add a domain, would I receive the domain for free within that paid plan for 11 months (the remainder of the first year)?

…or, would I have to pay for the domain at that time since I didn’t chose a domain name when I first purchased, or upgraded, to a paid plan?

  • Cindy –

You can register the domain at any point before the plan expires (12 months).
