  How do I upload a theme i purchased. WordPress tells me I need a business account. Is thatreally true?

  Yes, that’s correct. Uploading custom themes is only available on sites with the Business plan.

  Themes for sites using the Free, Personal or Premium plans can be activated from our Theme Showcase instead:
