Uploading a Theme
-
Hey there,
I recently purchased a theme from Colorlib (Photosen) in the hopes, that I could upload it to start my site, however, when clicking install the theme, the upgrade message to the Business Plan appears- Can I only install a theme under the Business, if my site is for personal use only? If no, would the theme install if I upgraded to a personal plan?Looking forward to your response

Hi there,
One thing you may not be aware of is that there are two major versions of the WordPress platform. On WordPress.com we offer a cloud-based and fully managed version of WordPress that anyone can use. No need to find website hosting or set up the WordPress software yourself, just sign up for an account and you are off to the races.
There is also the “self-hosted” version of WordPress (which is used to set up sites on traditional web hosts like GoDaddy, Bluehost, etc.) is more advanced and completely DIY, but would also allow you to add 3rd party plugins or themes.
Please note that this version of WordPress is usually the choice of web designers and developers, as well as advanced users, so it does not come with support like you have here.
The other difference is that most 3rd party themes and plugins “designed for WordPress” such as your Colorlib theme are designed for the self-hosted version of the platform.
You can enable the ability to add 3rd party plugins and/or themes to your WordPress.com site by upgrading to our WordPress.com Business Plan, but if your site is free or using one of our lower level upgrade plans, it is not possible to upload the Colorlib theme. Instead you will need to choose from our pre-installed themes here: https://wordpress.com/themes/
With that said we do offer this theme that is similar to Photosen, and can be set to use a black background instead of the default white background shown in the demo: https://wordpress.com/theme/mayland
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
