Uploading PDF & .doc files

Hey – I’ve checked around on the support forums – but still can’t seem to get my .wordpress.com blog to load a .doc or .pdf file. Whenever I load either it simply shows the name of the file, rather than embedding it into my post. I first tried loading a .doc file – but that didn’t work. So I saved it as a .pdf and then tried to upload that – no dice. I renamed the pdf, to make sure there were no spaces, periods, etc. – just letters and numbers, but it still isn’t working. Any advice? The site is http://www.zeezoo.wordpress.com

    Thanks.

Pdf or doc makes no difference: you just have to click “File URL” before clicking “Insert into Post”, so that you get a link to the file.

I’ve acually had that fail on me in the past couple of months. What I do is upload it according to standard procedure, copy the file link, yes, make sure Link to File is selected, and hit Insert in Post, then it turns out as zarmee says, nothing there but the text, so I go back in, highlight the text, and insert the link to the actual file.

No idea why it does this. I reported it to staff quite awhile ago, but I don’t upload files that often, so I only saw it the once.

I don’t see a “File URL” to click, but I do see a tab that says “From URL.” It’s not from a URL – it’s a pdf saved on my computer.

I’m sorry. Could you walk me through what you’re saying. I’m not sure I know what you mean by “copy the file link.” Copy it from where, to where?

What I have been doing is clicking on “Add image.” And then click on the “From Computer” tab. I then browse through the files on my computer to find the .pdf or .doc . I double click to open it. Then hit “insert into post.” But when I check the post, all it has done is inserted the text of the file name ex: “YEWPrompt2HappyJuly82009.pdf” – it is not a clickable link, nor is it a pdf image.

Oh – I got it! Thanks – “File URL” worked. Sorry I’m so blind!

No worries. Glad you got it working.
