URL's and redirecting

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, our blog doesn’t recieve many views a day, but we always have people viewing our blog after searching certain tags through WordPress. However, the other day I changed the web blog address of both the Media and Reviews blog and we have gone from having 50-100 views a day, to having none. Of course, this could just be because no one has clicked on us during a search, but I was just wondering if in changing the address, we would no longer be listed on the searches within WordPress. Hope this makes sense to someone and thanks for taking the time to help if you can,

    Thanks again in advance,

    James

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi James. By changing the URLs of existing content, you risk losing a lot of visitors that find you through search engines (and perhaps WordPress.com tags). Instead of finding your content, they’ll get a “file not found” error.

It takes time for search engines to realize your content is no longer at URL #1 is gone, but that there is content now at URL #2.

    You’re welcome.

(Of course, on my last sentence, remove “is no longer”…)
