user invite emails
-
Hi, I set up a site for a friend and have been trying to add them as an admin user. I have sent several invites now to invite them (and have tried to also invite them as an editor), but the invites do not arrive – although its says the invite has been successfully sent. The status is pending. They have checked their junk mail folder. I got them to set up their own WordPress account as well, and get a user name and then used that instead of their email address to invite them them but still no joy. Can anyone help?

Hi there,
Can you please give us the email address to which you’re sending the invitation so we can check? Type the email address on its own line, and it will be hidden from public view.

Okay, it looks like the invitation emails are bouncing back because they’re being blocked as spam by the email provider. Lisa will likely need to add our email address to a whitelist at the email provider in order for the emails to go through.
The invitation emails come from donotreply[at]wordpress.com

Ok, thanks for this. Apparently the emails were not even going into the spam folder. I have seen online that other people have had problems with BT email accounts blocking legitimate senders – and they don’t have a whitelist function as such. However looking at the BT site it seems customers can add the WordPress email as a Safe Sender in their settings. We’ll try that.

Yeah, some email providers are a bit too enthusiastic at trying to prevent spam, and it seems in this case like they might just have a blanket-block on all donotreply addresses, no matter what domain it’s actually coming from.
Safe Sender is basically the same thing as a whitelist, so that should work.
