Using a WordPress domain with iWeb

  Hi,

  I’ve had a WordPress.com blog for a few years now, with a domain bought through WordPress. Now I’d like to use iWeb instead, in a totally different blog (published on MobileMe) but using the same acquired domain. Is that posible?

  I’ve done the necessary changes in iWeb and I’ve edited the DNS options in the Domain section of the dashboard (Custom DNS records); I’ve included this line in the text box:
  CNAME autodiscover web.me.com.

  I’ve just made the changes so it’s maybe too soon to see the results; what I want to know is whether is this ok. Any thoughts?

  Yes, you bought the domain name, and it is yours, and you can point it anywhere you wish.

  It can take 24-72 hours for a domain DNS change to propagate through all the internet name servers although it is typically 24 hours or less. It just depends on how many DNS changes and such are stacked up waiting to be logged by the DNS servers.

  Are you sure you want autodiscover in the CNAME record? It means your iWeb site will be accessible at http://autodiscover.guigondi.org/

  No, I’m not at all sure. I just saw the example line and copied it. If I want the website to be accessed through http://www.guigondi.org should I replace “autodiscover” with “www”?

  Exactly! If you want to use http://www.guigondi.org, then it should be www instead of autodiscover in the CNAME record. :)

  Thanks a lot.

  I have one more question: the URL http://www.guigondi.org is now working as expected but the URL guigondi.org keeps showing the guigondi.wordpress.com blog. How can I change that?

  I hate to do this, but I need to know how can I configure the domain dns so I can access my site through guigondi.org and not only through http://www.guigondi.org.
