Verse blocks show as single line in preview

  • Unknown's avatar

writing a new post, preview shows my verse blocks as a single horizontal line with scroll bars…

has something changed that has broken verse blocks? I’m not doing anything different than I have for months. Same result in multiple web browsers.

    Frustrated and dismayed.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I am also having this same problem!!! Verse block will not show my “special spacing formats”, only a single line with a scroll bar!

Please help. This is the post I am having trouble with:

  • Hi Y’all –

I’ll be happy to take a closer look. I’m not finding any other reports but that doesn’t mean it’s not a problem. Please send me the specific link to where the block isn’t working as expected.

It’d be great to get screen shots as well. Those can get stored in your media library where we can take a look.

A few more details that we will need:
    – browser type
    – browser version
    – disable browser extensions
    – try different browser
    – clear cache

Thank you so much for your willingness to help!

    Browser type where observed:
    – latest firefox on Windows 10
    – latest opera on Windows 10
    – WordPress Ap on my Android phone
    basically everywhere I tried
    – Edge browser build 18362

I even started a new, private blog to try it under a different theme and make sure it wasn’t just the preview function. Same result.

My last post I had to make an image of my poem and then upload the image, but that’s a bad solution.

Here is the url of the unpublished blag with an example post showing the issue, and screen shots saved in the media storage of the account:

  • Thanks for all the details.

It looks like this is actually a problem with the open source version of WordPress made over on WordPress.org, and they’re already working on it over there in https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/19083. Once this is fixed in Core, we’ll also be able to implement the fix on WordPress.com.

In the meantime, if you have poetry you want to get published you can use the Classic block, and select the Preformatted option from the formatting menu in that block’s toolbar. It should have a similar end result as using the verse block.

Thank you for looking into this, and for the suggested work around! I have tried the preformatted block, and although it preserves spacing, it adds a bar on the left and has a different color background, font, etc. , which is a look I don’t care for. I will patiently for the fix. I’m glad they are working on it! Thanks again!
