videopress error – connect() timeout
-
– I just bought a Videopress license for use on a self-hosted WP site.
– If I try to embed my first test video (with shortcode), all I get is a large red square saying “videopress error – connect() timed out!”. (embedding on my wp.com account works fine)
– I can’t find any info about this error.Can you please let me know what might be causing this error? Any server settings I should check?

It’s possible an error could be caused if you opted to turn off sharing for VideoPress videos. You can change the default sharing setting in your Settings > Media page under the “Video player” heading, or you can change sharing settings for each individual video. I checked your Settings > Media page as well as the QU9YxIYq video though, and both are currently setup correctly for sharing.
Past that, I’ll need to do a big more testing. It would help to be able to see the red error myself.
Can you please verify the following for me?
1. Is this the embed code you tried? [wpvideo QU9YxIYq]
2. What is the URL where you tried to embed the video and where you are seeing a big red square?

Thanks for the quick response. After some further investigation, the problem seems to be server related, we are encountering a number of other problems on the production server – all works fine in development environment (also VideoPress).
Our IT department is investigating the issue, I’ll get back to you if I have more information. -
Thanks for the update! Hopefully the IT guys will be able to sort out the issue for you. Once it has been resolved, I would love it if you had time to post back here with the resolution in case it helps others.

The problem seems to be caused by a pretty restrictive firewall on the server, so we’ll probably be moving to another server…
