VideoPress not working properly

  Hi Support,

  I’m now testing VideoPress on one of my blogs without much luck.

  I’ve uploaded a number of test videos to the page below:

  All but the first (a very low resolution one) show a white video screen with audio only. They’re also unable to seek, which is not surprising, considering there’s no video to be seen. This is using the VideoPress flash player.
  MP4 playback from the Media Library or the attachment page works fine so the videos are definitely there.

  I’ve encoded all these test videos with Handbrake 0.10.0.6534 using built-in profiles (i.e. no fudging with the settings).

  Would you be able to help out with this?

  Update:

  Upon fiddling a bit with the video settings in Handbrake, plus trying other programs that do work, I traced the problem down to the “Variable Frame Rate” setting, which is enabled by default in HB. Setting the video to “Constant Frame Rate” made the problem go away, regardless of video resolution of the frame rate itself.

  In sum, “CFR good”, “VFR bad” – at least for VideoPress.

  Though not completely ideal, as CFR video tends to generate a slightly larger file than VFR, this is now enough to get me going.

  Unless this a bug with the VideoPress encoder, it would be helpful if you would mention this limitation on the VideoPress support page ( http://en.support.wordpress.com/videopress/ ), as it might help some other people out there facing the same issue.

  I will look into getting that either fixed or noted on the support page (if it is a known limitation).

  On a positive note, I’m positively surprised VideoPress appears to positively support 60fps HD video – or at least provide a positively good illusion of it. I wish I could see YouTube’s “Stats for Nerds” panel here to confirm that. Anyway, this beats YouTube by far for video game promo videos where smoothness is vital. That’s a USP right there.
