VideoPress video not working with Upgrade
-
Hello, I have a self-hosted website (http://www.pd4cs.org) and I bought Videopress upgrade for the site. The videos are hosted on http://pd4csvideo.wordpress.com. When I use the short code to embed the video on the self hosted site, the page does not show the content (not even the text) and looks like this http://www.pd4cs.org/?p=121. When I remove the short code to embed the video press video, it shows the text and looks like this http://www.pd4cs.org/?p=92 (of course this page has no video short code)
The short code works when I embed the video on a wordpress.com hosted site (http://pd4csvideo.wordpress.com/variable-wordpress-com/).
Please help.

Hi there,
Just to confirm, do you have the VideoPress plugin installed on your self-hosted site?
It’s possible that another plugin is interfering with the VideoPress plugin on your site. Could you try disabling your other plugins one by one to see if the video on http://www.pd4cs.org/?p=121 starts working?
If that doesn’t work, please let me know and I can keep troubleshooting this with you.

Hi,
Thank you for your response.
Looks like JetPack plugin was interfering with the VideoPress plugin. When I deactivated JetPack, the video works now. I would like to have JetPack as well, is there a work around?
-
Ah! Sorry, I didn’t realize you already had the Jetpack plugin. You can actually go to the Jetpack page in your dashboard and enable the VideoPress module from there. In that case, you don’t need the standalone VideoPress plugin at all.
Please let me know if you have any trouble with that. :)

Hello, I have another issue with Videopress.
When I play the video on WordPress.com blog associated with my Videopress, the resolution is excellent – even when played at full screen. However, when I embed the video using the wpvideo tag on my self-hosted blog, the resolution drops dramatically and the words are fuzzy and unreadable. What’s going on? Ca you please help.

Hi there,
Do you have a link to a page on your self-hosted blog showing the problem? I did some testing on my end and couldn’t reproduce the resolution problem you described, so it would help to see an example of the issue you’re seeing.

The video quality of the video on the videopress is good. See this direct link of the video here. Play it in full screen
However, when embedding the video into a post on a wordpress.com site, the video quality deteriorates. Here is the link of embedded video in a post.

Any suggestions?

Hi there!
I just did some testing and it seems like this issue is related to the theme you’re using. I’ve submitted a ticket to have our theme developers take a look into why this is happening.
I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back. In the meantime, you could try changing your theme.
Let me know if I can help with anything else!

Hi,
I tried 4-5 themes and the problem persists..With some themes it got worse, but didn’t really get any better. I even tried the free theme available for download on video press site (http://videopress.com/free-wordpress-video-theme/), but even that didn’t help.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
-
Sorry about that! Our theme developers took a look and this is actually related to the content width of your theme. I’ve put in a ticket with the appropriate team to take a look.
Here are a couple of themes that have a wider content area that you might be interested in using in the meantime:
I’ll let you know as soon as I hear back from the developers!

Hi there,
I tried the other themes and the problem persists. Here is the video with Widely theme, see how the video quality remains low.
Thanks for all your help
-
It looks like the site at the link you gave me is actually running the Responsive theme, not Widely.
I have some test sites that I threw your video links into for each of the themes I suggested. It looks like, for whatever reason, the ‘Misconceptions’ video’s thumbnail always looks low res, but when you start playing it, it actually displays in higher resolution.
Here’s what my test posts look like:
I’ll let you know as soon as I hear anything back from the developers about this.

Hi,
Sorry I changed the theme earlier today back to the original theme because using Widely didn’t hep with the video quality. I have changed it back to Widely and here is the post. Still has a low quality.
It is interesting that it shows fine on the wordpress.com site but doesn’t show up like that on my self-hosted site using the Widely theme.

Okay, I think I know what’s going on with the video. By default the video gets loaded as a lower quality. However, if I click the HD button in the video player, it will load the high quality video. Is there a way to make HD default?
Thanks.
-
I just visited your link and it looks like the video is automatically displaying in HD now! Sorry, I totally didn’t think to check that again since your initial posts were already displaying in HD, and the resolution wasn’t great.
Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you out with! And I’ll let you know as soon as our developers respond to the ticket I submitted.
