In stats. Are visitors and views related to anyone who has logged onto to the website. ie me?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

No. The visits or page views of anyone who is logged into the site will not be counted by WordPress.com stats.

Unless the privacy setting on the site is set to “Private.”

Okay, so if I understand correctly – if I’m editing my site, writing a blog, visiting my own pages – the views and visits don’t relate to my activity (unless setting is set to private).

    Cheers
btw – my site template is minimalizine. I’m a complete beginner and I’ve been trying to create a drop-down menu. I must have one for my short stories, novels etc as it doesn’t make sense for guests to have to trawl through one after the other.- any ideas?

That’s correct. It doesn’t make sense to me that the “Private” setting would have this effect, but it does.

I’ve been trying to create a drop-down menu. I must have one for my short stories, novels etc

    Here’s what I would suggest:
    1. Add one or more categories such as “short story,” “novel.” etc. to each post you wish to display in drop-down menus. See the Categories support page.

Assigning categories to posts automatically results in the creating of category pages. See the Category Pages support page. Examples:

    https://mccollweb.wordpress.com/category/short-story
    https://mccollweb.wordpress.com/catogory/novel

    2. Create and activate a custom menu (see the Custom Menus support page), including among the menu items links to category pages.

    3. Add links to individual posts to the menu, nesting them below the appropriate category or categories.

    Correction:

Change “creating of category pages” to “creation of category pages.”

    @ mccollweb,

    You’re welcome.

Your top level menu items “Short Stories” and “Novels” presently link to static pages. The “Short Stories” page has the same content as the post titled “River.” I presume that with each additional short story published as a post you intend to copy and paste the content of the post into this page. That could be done, but it will be unnecessarily time-consuming in comparison to using a category page instead. Other advantages of using the category page with the Minimalizine theme are the default inclusion of the following links accompanying each post in a category:

    title link
    published date
    categories (assigned to each post)
    tags
    post format (other than standard)

If you intend to add more short stories in the future, I suggest you assign a “short story” or “short stories” category to the post “River: A Short Story,” and to any others which will fall into this category. Then I would change the URL of the top level menu item
    https://mccollweb.wordpress.com/short-stories/
    to
    https://mccollweb.wordpress.com/category/short-story/ (or ‘short-stories/’).

Similarly, I’d suggest you assign the category “novel” or “novels” to the post “Shuffle,” and then change the URL of the top level menu item

    https://mccollweb.wordpress.com/novels/
    to
    https://mccollweb.wordpress.com/category/novel/ (or ‘novels/’)

Hint: Once the categories are assigned to the posts, instead of manually changing the URLs as I’ve described above, you could simply delete the menu items linking to static pages, and replace them with menu items linking to the corresponding category pages.
