vpn affecting saving of drafts and revisions?
-
I use a VPN when I’m online and it appears that wordpress doesn’t agree with a VPN. It seems if your IP address differs, it will not save drafts or revisions. I would like a definitive answer about this please. Anyone else having this experience?

Hi there,
What do you mean “if your IP address differs”? You mean the IP from which you’re working on posts?
That will have no effect whatsoever on your ability to save drafts. The only form of IP blocking we do is for multiple failed login attempts, and you will not be blocked from doing anything if you merely access your site from different IPs, even within the same session.
All our staff use proxies and VPNs every moment we’re working on WordPress.com without any problems, so if it’s your VPN causing issues, it’s the specific VPN you’re using. Does it have any automatic ad-blocking or malware scanning functionality? If that’s not well-designed it can end up blocking legitimate code from running in your browser or block legitimate network requests, and that can mess with autosave.
Have you ruled out your browser? Browser problems are a much more likely cause of auto-save failures.
With your VPN enabled and disabled, please check if saving works if you use a different browser, if you use your browser in incognito/private mode, or if you manually disable all browser ad-ons. Ad blockers and anti-tracking browser add-ons are known to cause issues, for the same reasons I mentioned above about blocking legitimate code and/or network requests.
