(W) becomes WordPress logo

When I enter (W), for “Wednesday” it appears as (is replaced by) the round “W” WordPress logo. How can I stop this behavior?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
You can change this in your site’s Writing Settings, under Settings > Writing in the site’s dashboard:
https://marierossano.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-writing.php
Next to Formatting you can uncheck the box next to “Convert emoticons like :-) and :-P to graphics on display.” That will stop text — including (W) — from being automatically converted to emoticons.
Please let me know if I can do anything more to help with that. :)

Many instances of this problem of previously entered text being converted to emoticons showed up quite recently. It seems this “feature” was implemented without notification, or that the box was checked without my knowledge.
Thank you for promptly pointing me to the solution!
