Want someone else's domain

  Hi. I am trying to establish another blog with some others as a student newspaper. We have named the newspaper but the name (Quark) has been taken. However the current quark.wordpress.com is inactive (in addition to being offensive). Is there any possibility we could take over the domain quark.wordpress.com and the current site of that name be changed to its page title or something?

  P.S. Tea With Shortbread is my current blog but is NOT the blog to which this question refers.

  There is no expiration date on blogs unused, reserved or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own with the owner of an unused blog via a contact form or commenting, then providing the are agreeable there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

  In the case that there is no contact information Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.

  Or you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.

  No. Even if the URL was deleted by its owner you could not obtain it.You cannot recover or register any deleted blog URL. Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.
