Hi, I am interested in adding the following features to my website with you, and I am planning on upgrading to Premium on the 15th. I want to make sure WordPress is the best fit so I need to know can you:
-Run eCommerce with a shopping cart?
-Integrate with mailchimp so I can have a join my mailing list button
-Upload PDF short stories for sale
It says the premium has a ‘custom design’ is that 100% customizable? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @wolfhydepress,
WordPress.org can do all of that with plugins, but our servers don’t support shopping carts right now. We have some tips and recommendations for running your own WordPress installation at at get.wp.com .

You would be wiser to look for a hosting website. The costs involved with WordPress.com are very high. WordPress.org pushes you to extremely expensive hosting sites to hold your data. You don’t even get a free backup with WordPress.com. What they call a small fee for doing a backup is $300.00. It’s a wonder they don’t charge a fee for asking a question in the forums.

@wolfhydepress hmm, that user seems to be confused. We don’t have backup fees or anything like that.
To clear things up though:
WordPress.org is free software you can modify as you’d like. You can modify it to change it into a shopping cart if you’d like, and then visitors would be able to buy products from your site. You’ll need a host and the technical know-how to run the software.
WordPress.com runs the software as a service for people who would rather let us deal with hosting and the other technical ends of things. Right now WordPress.com does not support the modifications needed to make a shopping cart.
So you would not be able to use our services to make a shopping cart, but WordPress.org is a very popular (and free) option you’d be welcome to use elsewhere. And you can use whatever host you’d like. We recommend some stable hosts, but you can just choose whatever works for you since you’ll be the one running it anyway.
