Want to split my existing blog into 2 different sites.

  My site started out showcasing my makeup portfolio, as well as a makeup blog. I wanted to take the blog part of it to another level, and break it out into its own site with a new name, but keep makeupbyneda.com solely for my makeup portfolio. I know that exporting and importing the blog content to my new blog may cause some links to break, so I’m wondering if the easiest way is to just to rename makeupbyneda.com, and delete the portfolio part of my site? And then recreate the portfolio part of my site onto makeupbyneda.com Since the portfolio has much less content than the blog, I thought it might be easiest to do it that way – but was wondering what happens to the domain makeupbyneda.com after I rename the original site, and want to create a new blog to go with makeupbyneda.com? If some sort of ‘save as’ function existed, that would be ideal – so I could duplicate the blog, and delete the parts I no longer wanted on each of the 2 blogs.

  Hi there,

  I recommend that you export the full contents of your blog — that’s the closest thing to the “save as” function you mentioned. That will give you a complete backup of your site’s contents. Then, you can import those contents into a new site, and delete the parts you don’t want on each one. We have information about how to do that at these links: Export and Import

  I recommend that you keep your portfolio and domain name (makeupbyneda.com) where they are, and create a new blog at a new address for your makeup blog. That will be easier than trying to rename your current site and move your domain name somewhere else, and in the end the effect will be the same.

  Thank you so much for the quick reply. Is it true that even by exporting the full contents of my blog, the link in it will no longer be active?

  Hi there,

  If you export the full contents of your blog, the links in your blog posts and pages will stay the same as they are now. If you keep using the same domain name with your exported blog, links to other posts/pages in your own blog will keep working. However, if you switch to a different blog address, the links to posts/pages in our own blog may stop working (because the address is different). However, the same thing would happen if you left the blog where it was but moved your domain name to a different blog.
