Want upgrade to private domain registration; WP will not allow purchase

I want to buy the Private Domain Registration upgrade for $8.

When I click “Add Private Registration” on the “My Upgrades” page, it shows me a cart with the $8 upgrade PLUS a $5 1 year domain registration fee I can’t remove. My registration is already paid up to WordPress through next January.

If I try to just eat the additional $5 and click purchase, I get ” This domain already exists and cannot be registered.”

Is it possible to add private registration to an existing domain?

I have the same issue. Mine won’t let me remove mapping and domain renewal from the cart. I would like to purchase the private registratio only.

Sorry, it looks like I linked you to My Domains instead of My Upgrades. Try here:

If that doesn’t work, can you please tell me what does happen when you try to add Private Registration there? A screenshot would be really helpful. You can upload it to your Media Library for me to see it.

No luck. I uploaded 2 screen shots. The first one is the screen I get when i click on “Add Private Registration” on My Upgrades page. The second screen shot is what I get when I click on “Remove” on the times I don’t want to purchase. I simply can’t remove those 2 items that I don’t need.

What am i doing wrong?

Hi there,

Sorry for the confusion! When your domain is set to expire within the next 6 months, you’ll need to renew your domain name at the same time you add private registration. When you do that, the privacy begins immediately and the domain is renewed for another full year. We have more about enabling privacy after registering a new domain if you’d like to read more.

Please let us know if you have trouble renewing your domain with private registration!
