We can’t figure out how to get admin status!

Hi, our digital magazine has been around for 12 years and gone through a dozen editors. Somewhere along the way, we lost administrator access which would allow us to update to the WordPress theme or even upgrade themes. So our site is exceptionally buggy! We need help figuring out how to untangle the mess.

Hello, I’m sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your website. However, your site is not hosted with WordPress.com. It is a site using the open-source WordPress software (from WordPress.org) but hosted with Hostgator.
To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities: https://wordpress.com/support/com-vs-org/
WordPress.org has complete documentation for self-hosted/installed versions of WordPress.org at https://wordpress.org/support/ and support at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
And they do have some options that might help at https://wordpress.org/support/article/resetting-your-password/
