Web Address and Primary Site

I created a new blog site and decided I didn’t like the name (much too ling). So from one device I followed the steps to change the name (so I thought). So now I see the name listed under my “Web Address” that states it will show publicly when I comment on blogs. When I go to make this same “Web Address” my Primary Site by using the same name it won’t allow me to stating that name is already in use. Well I was the one that created it so why can’t I use it for my newly renamed Prinary Site? I also deleted my old Primary Site name because I am sure I do not want to use it. But now I can’t get the name (Web address) that I have chosen in its stead. Very frustrating and not ease of use when one is fickle. Please help.

  • Hi there,

Can you please give the address of the site involved? The account you’re using to post here does not currently own any sites on WordPress.com.

If you’ve deleted a free WordPress.com address, then that address is no longer available. Deleting a WordPress.com address is permanent, and it means that particular address cannot be used again, even by the person who originally owned it. This was stated in the warning messages on the screen where you confirm the site deletion.

In the Web Address field in account settings you can add absolutely any URL you want. That field determines where your username link to, and doesn’t have to be a site in your WordPress.com account. There is no connection whatsoever between that field and the primary site set in your account.
