WebP files wont load into media library

    I am trying to update all my images on my website to WebP files, but when I try to add images to the media library that are WebP files, I get the error that I need to convert them to .png or .jpeg files first. I am on the latest version of WordPress and I saw on several websites that WordPress should be accepting WebP files into the media library at this time. What is going on?

    This site is not hosted with us on WordPress.com, but using the open source WordPress software at another hosting provider. This is a bit different to a site hosted on WordPress.com. You can read about these differences here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

    For help you would need to speak to the hosting provider to make sure there’s no restrictions.
