  I already have a domain.
  My site is hosted with hostgator.
  Can I build a site with wordpress and host it on hostgator

  The short answer is “yes”. But you’ll need to talk to hostgator about setting up a WordPress install on their servers using the open source WordPress software from WordPress.org.

  WordPress.com cannot help with that, I’m afraid. We can only assist with sites that are hosted here on our servers.
