Website Files Backup

Hi there, I’m at my wits end. My hosting ended whilst I was in hospital recovering from covid and now ALL of my site files have disappeared. Is there anything you can do to help? The server company deleted it after 7 days but I thought I could still find it here…

    Site: https://www.BADDYute.com.
    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Unknown

We can’t help as your site wasn’t running on the wordpress.com platform. If you didn’t make a backup, the content of your site is lost forever.

It was on WordPress.com for a year I had a developer create it but he said he can’t help. I’ve only just bought hosting elsewhere.

If it was on the wordpress.com platform as you said, then the content of that site should be on the free site connected to your account. Perhaps you know the URL of your site over here on the wordpress.com platform?

  • Hi @baddyute

Firstly I’m glad to hear you’re back and have recovered. :)

Unfortunately, as @staartmees has pointed out, wether you have a backup or not depends a lot on where you were hosted. Based on what I see here, your site was hosted at GoDaddy, yes?

Because of the way website hosting works, unless you specifically set up “extra backups” of some kind, it’s likely that the only place that has backups is your host. Have you reached out to GoDaddy support to ask them if they have a backup of your work on BADDYute.com at all? If they do not then sadly there is not another backup that you can pull from.

You’re definitely welcome to start over here on WordPress.com. We’re a managed host and we have robust site backups for all sites we house here on our service. https://wordpress.com/start/
