Website Issues After Deleting Images

I recently deleted A LOT of old image files from our media library that had built up over the years (close to 1,000 images in total). Our website was working fine prior to this and is still working fine MOST of the time. However, there are some exceptions.
When trying to access the media library while editing a post/page to insert an image, only a few thumbnails of our images load and none of the other images load as you scroll down through the library. This is problematic, as it makes it impossible to add existing media from our library to our site content.
The second problem I have discovered occurs when trying to set a featured image for a page or post. Not only are we unable to successfully set a featured image (after selecting one, it just never loads in the page/post editor interface), but after attempting to add a featured image, our website becomes inaccessible for a couple minutes — both the admin back-end and the public site. During this period of 1-3 minutes, when we attempt to access the WP admin backend or when visitors attempt to go to our website, the result is an error reading ‘Sorry, that didn’t work. Please try again or come back later. 500 Error. Internal Server Error.’ After a couple minutes, the issue resolves itself and the site starts loading properly.
I’m stumped and don’t know how to fix this. Does anyone have any helpful insights to share?

But that is the site associated with this account you are using and you have reached the support forum for free sites hosted at WordPress.com. For help with your GoDaddy site (which will be using the WordPress.org software) you need to register an account at: https://wordpress.org/support/

My apologies. I logged in using the same account that I use when accessing our admin dashboard, so I assumed the forums I was directed to would be the correct ones to post to. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I’ve now got an account setup for wordpress.org, but cannot figure out how the heck to locate and post to forums over there. Any chance you can help get me heading in the right direction?
