website management

Hello, I recently started my own business and had a website built for me by a friend. It was to my understanding that I had paid for my domain and my website as well. I was under the impression that I was using wordpress as well.

  • Hi there,

What is the URL of your site, and what exactly is your question?

WordPress is the name of the free software that you can download from WordPress.org.

WordPress.com, where you’re posting now, is just one of many hosting providers for that software. If your friend built your site on our hosting, they either need to transfer that site to you, or invite your account as a user on the site before you can make changes to it.

If they used the open source version of WordPress at another host, then the site has nothing at all to do with your account here on WordPress.com. In that case, your friend will need to create a user account for you on the site and share the login details of that account with you so that you can log in and make changes.
