Website update failed

Hello! I am the editor for my business website which is made using WordPress. But for quite a while I have been having an issue with the update itself and the plugins installed not updating. It shows that the automatic update has failed and even when I try to manually update the website or the plugins it does not work. When I try to update a plugin I get the error code “-1”.
Sometimes after trying to manually update the website/plugin the admin page goes into maintenance and I get this message: “The website is temporarily unavailable due to scheduled maintenance work. Welcome back in a minute.” (translated from Swedish).
Could someone please help me resolve this issue.
