What do viewers to private site get?

I thought they were informed of each new post after they accepted invitation but they are not. And how do viewers invites differ from email invites?

Hi there,
Viewers only get the ability to view a private site, nothing more.
If they want to see new posts on the site in their WordPress.com Reader, or if they want to receive email notifications of new posts, they still need to follow the site and subscribe to email notification, exactly the same way it works on a public site.
