What happens to a blog using a premium theme if you downgrade to the free version in the future?

What happens to a blog using a premium theme if you downgrade to the free version in the future? I am going on a trip and would like to post photos on a wordpress.com blog using a theme that is only available at a premium member rate but when my trip is over I don’t want to continue paying $8 a month. Will I still be able to view what I have posted, in the format that I have posted it in, if I downgrade in the future?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

If you activated the Premium Theme as part of the Premium Plan, and then cancel the plan, you’ll also lose access to the theme and your site will revert to using one of our default themes. Your content will still be fine, though. Just the appearance of your site will change.

An option that might work better for you, especially if you don’t necessarily want the other Premium Plan features, is to purchase only the theme you want to use. If you buy a single Premium theme, it’s a once-of purchase, in other words, you won’t have to renew the theme each year, and you can keep using it for as long as you have the site.
