what happens to my blog if WordPress "dies"?

  Let’s say WordPress goes out of business and no longer produces software and their servers shut down. If I downloaded the wordpress CMS into my web host’s server, would my blog still fully function or is it tied to WordPress’s servers somehow?

  The software is open source running on several million web site so the odds of the software suddenly going away is sort of low. If WordPress.COM went out of business I would expect that there would be a time frame that you would be notified of the service ending to allow you to export your blog and import it to your own install of the WordPress.ORG software on your own separate host.
