What happens to the domain when I delete my site?

I currently have 2 free domains (I’m not sure how I ended up with the second one, but I like it more). My stuff is all on the first domain but I’ve decided I’d prefer to use the second. I want to transfer all the site contents currently on the first domain to the second domain. I would prefer NOT to just redirect the second to the first, and I would also rather not rebuild my existing site from scratch on the second domain.
If I delete my site on the second domain, will its domain become available for free again so that I can just change my first site’s domain to it?

Deleted site addresses cannot be recovered, so instead we recommend exporting from the old site https://wordpress.com/support/export/ and importing to the new: https://wordpress.com/support/import/#import-content-from-another-word-press-site
