what happens to the site if the domain is expired?

  If I was to give up my domain and not renew it, will it change back automatically to my free WordPress URL – abc.wordpress.com? or will the site be completely erased/inaccessible?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  This is what will happen. And it is the reason that all sites have a permanent ________.wordpress.com URL.
